Following fuel pump replacement on 93 cavalier engine began to smoke

After fuel pump was replaced on my 1993 chevy cavalier, it ran until smoke started coming from under the hood, what could cause that and can it be repaired?

Christine, smoke from engine, probably not fuel pump related. Have a good auto technician have a look, diagnose and estimate repair.
