Vacuum leaves dark residue on carpet

When I vacuum my light carpet, the cleaner leaves a dark residue in the carpet at the point where I pull it back to, as though it's pulling the dirt backward but not sucking it in. I have to go over these spots repeatedly. The canister is empty, filters are clean, no debris around roller brush but it still does it, even with suction at its highest. Is my motor possibly failing? It picks up dirt well with the extension pole (without the brush). Any advice?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Hi,

If it is the motorized floor brush or the pet power brush (not sure which one you mean) check that they are not clogged up in either the hose or connecting tube for the motorized brush or the connecting tube of the pet power brush

Thank you jayeff. I think it might have been the hose leading off the brush. It is very curved and there was a lot of junk hardened on the wall inside, right at the bend. It works a little better now but getting up there in years so... Thanks again!
