Turned off by itself. When restarted said preparing for first use

I was out for a walk and had my Droid Razr in my pocket when it shut off by itself. When I tried to restart it, it stated it was preparing for first time use. Did I just loose all of my pictures and data? Is there a way to recover the pictures? Please help, as I do not want to turn my phone back and and finish the "preparing for first time use" option!!
