Why does the motor pulsate when trigger is released

When I stop pressure washing, the motor pulsates as if trying to continue pumping water. I noticed some water comes out the side. Any ideas what the problem is?

Ron, I do not see a big issue here. The trigger mechanism on your handle simply cuts off the water supply. Yes, your pump will continue to do its job until a pressure switch turn it off. Since you have a small leak somewhere it is possible that the pump does not reach it's cutoff pressure. It might be possible to drill down to the issues but for that you would have to at least let us know what make and model your pressure washer is.

I release the trigger and water still pours from a leaky release-nozzle connection (at quite a rate) and the motor roars on!

@lostj have you checked the leaky connection? What make and model is your pressure washer? Since you have a leak, the motor will not shut off or slow down. You have no pressure telling the pressure switch to turn it off.
