Why will my Roomba not charge?

I placed my Roomba on the charging station and left it there overnight. The next morning I tried to run the Roomba through a cleaning cycle, and it gave a low battery signal.

The contact points on the Roomba may be dirty. Roomba's charging contacts are under the front bumper of the robot. This means that they are in front of the brushes, and see a lot of debris. They can easily get dirty and increase the resistance in the charging circuit.

If after cleaning the contacts, the Roomba will still not charge correctly, you may need to replace the battery or get a new charging dock.

I've clean contacts on both the roomba and dock. It has a new battery (only used once since install). Dock is working. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have the same issue. New battery, dock has green lights, but Roomba is still flashing red after several days in the dock. Everything is clean on the Roomba and the dock.

by

Cleaned the contact points, worked like a charm thanks! :)

by

Tried cleaning the metal connectors. Did NOT work. Any other suggestions

You have to clean the contacts on the dock and the Roomba. Try using something abrasive like a Brillo pad. Like this:

Check the contacts on the charger. They are essentially spring loaded steel so they will push up and make contact when the Roomba is docked. I had one that was stuck down so wouldn't make contact.

by

I checked the dock with a voltmeter to make sure it was not the dock. Although the contacts all looked shiny and clean, I went over everything with an eraser and followed up with alcohol. Still no luck. Finally broke out the steel wool on the roomba contacts and it's working like a champ. Thanks Tarek!

Lightly scrubbing with steel wool did the trick for me!

Should the charging light (orange flashing battery on 880 model) come on even if the contacts are dirty or not connecting? They look clean to me.

I have to stick something like a coaster under the back of mine so it will charge. All points are clean & battery is fine. It just won't align properly.

I'm glad I saw this comment. I was about to buy a new charging station, but this worked perfectly.

It could also be an error with the hardware and the triggering of the pads below the roomba. A great forum thread about fixing it can be found here:

There are a few reasons why your Roomba might not be charging.

One possibility is that the charging cable is not properly inserted into the charging port on the robot. Another possibility is that the battery is damaged or the charging port on the robot is defective.

If you think the problem might be the charging cable, try using a different charging cable to see if that solves the issue. If you think the problem might be the battery, you can try replacing Battery.

If you are still having trouble getting your Roomba to charge, then contact with irobot or explore more about this issue from here
