Optical drive won't open

The optical drive on my old 2006 model 1181 won't open. There is no disk inside (yes, I'm sure). Is there any way to open it and pop the opening. Thanks

You'll need to remove the drive and see if you can carefully move the drive gears. If they won't turn the drive is likely gone. Time for a new unit.

Melvin,

What do you mean by won't open. The MacBook Core Duo 2006 Model you have should have a slot loading Drive so i'm not sure what you mean by won't open. On the other hand, so many of these 2006 MacBook Core Duo have had problems with failed drives. Yours might have died as well. Have you tried inserting a disk in to see if the drive pulls the disk all the way through?

As Dan also suggested, open up the MacBook if your comfortable doing it and check the drive physically to see if you can manually get it going. Otherwise, its time to replace it.

Best of Luck!
