Could grey spots with rear camera be from bad camera?

My images from rear camera on my iPhone 5 show grey four very noticeable grey spots.

Opening phone and cleaning camera lense and lense on back case with alcohol did not solve or even effect the spots at all.

What is the next step in solving? Besides the lense on the base, the actual camera lense and camera unit itself, is there any other components that could be causing the spots?

I don't want to pay $40 to replace the camera only to find that there were possible other sources for the spots, like an imager somewhere else in he phone.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Check your front camera to see if it has the spots. If it had, it may be the problem of motherboard. If it had not, you can clear the data and make sure if you installed some apps you think maybe affect the camera at the same time. If software solution can't help you, you can check the connector if it get loosen or the pins on connector get damage, and the last solution is change the camera(if you can DIY replace, will not cost $40 so much).

Some times if dirt has made it's way into the phones camera it sticks to the lens and is very difficult to remove had this problem a few times myself when the glass on the front of the phone is cracked or smashed at the top of the iPhone..

A new camera solved this problem everytime.

Could you provide us with a picture so we can see the grey dots?
