Lower touch screen will not respond to unlock phone or type

My phone is out of warranty. It has been restored to factory settings, and re-installed with the newest software update.

It seems it could be the the proximity sensor. I am very new at this so, where can I find step-by-step instructions how to open the phone, and install a proximity sensor, etc.

Hello can you please explain how this happened? Was it dropped?

The proximity sensor being faulty will not affect the touch screen what so ever

I did not drop it. I cannot swap to slide to to unlock. I cannot answer the phone when it rings. Practically I cannot use the bottom half of the screen to get into the phone.
