How can I dismantle key(s)or keyboard of MBP 17" 2nd generation?

I have spilled a small quantity of tea slightly sweetened (sugar) on the keyboard of my MBP G4 17" 2nd generation.

I have first lost the O, L, and ; keys. Then it has switched off.

I have let it dried by placing it near an electric radiator.

One day after, the power button does not function anymore.

I live far away from any apple or Apple agreed after sales service. S I have startd to investigate the case by myself.

I have disconnected the battery (following ifixit instructions) but not removed it (lack of 3pans screwdriver).

Opening the lower case I hav'nt seen any great damage on this side. Some tea has dried right on the case and on the side of the battery.

I have put it again to dry

I would like to have a look at the upper side and the keys, but I do not find any instructions for this mac on the ifixit site. Isn't it possible? Do I have to remove the whole stuff from the case?

Agathe, any chance you could post the last three of your serial number? That way I could identify your computer and see if I have the right directions:-)

You will most likely have to replace the entire upper case as Apple doesn't sell this as a separate part. MacBook Pro 17" Unibody (Early-Mid 2009) Upper Case

There are cables built into the protective cover on the underside of the keyboard that parts just aren't available for.

Apple part number 661-5041.

The photo is the printed circuit that the start button is part of. Ignore the photo date.

Just another possibility: couldn't it be the on/off button? Because it was the piece of the mac the most exposed to the spillage.And when I tried to light on my cmputer, I have -maybe- allowed some liquid to enter the button and dammage it. So my question is, is it any way to change this button without changing the whole upper case, or is it built-in?

Yes the button is separate from the upper right corner. It is held in place by two screws and a covering plate. I peeled back part of the black plastic covering the keyboard to try to see where the ribbon cable goes. It runs under the screwed down keyboard. It will take me a couple of hours or more to do a teardown and take pictures of this and I will try to find the time to do a repair guide for you in the next couple of days. Keep looking for it. The part will not be sold separately so you will have to find someone like me that has one and is willing to take the time to get it for you.

I tore down the upper case and start button. Sandwiched between the keyboard upper and lower layers is a printed circuit that covers everything. The start button is included in this. So it is impossible to just replace this cable without replacing the entire upper case.
