Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255 Troubleshooting

My Satellite 2435-S255 turns off randomly ¶

Your satellite shuts down without you turning it off.

Dead Battery ¶

Your laptop battery could just have died. Try plugging in your laptop charger to charge the battery.

Broken Battery ¶

Your battery could damaged or broken in some way that does not allow it to sufficiently power your laptop. This is likely if you tried plugging in your charger and it still won’t turn on. Try getting a replacement battery and look at the battery replacement guide to see if that solves the problem.

The Satellite is overheating ¶

Laptops can run very hot, and if the temperature inside the laptop gets too high the laptop will shut itself down to prevent the heat from damaging the laptop. See the “My Satellite 2435-S255 is overheating” troubleshooting guide for more information.

My Satellite 2435-S255 won’t turn on, and is beeping at me ¶

The Satellite is using what’s known as a beep code to communicate the most likely cause of the error

Write down the sequence of beeps. There will be 3 pauses, and then number of beeps between/before/after the pauses form the beep code. Many beep codes are problems you most likely won’t be able to fix, and probably mean that your laptop is just about totaled. However, these ones can be fixed:

1-2-1-1 Power management error ¶

The Satellite isn’t receiving power properly. The problem may be a dead or broken battery, so see the battery replacement guide. If not, then it’s a problem with the power supply setup, in which case you should bring it a professional to fix.

1-3-3-1 Extended memory error or 2-3-3-3 Extended memory failure ¶

This means something is wrong with the RAM. Replace the RAM by going to a professional.

3-2-1-2, 4-1-1-1, or 4-3-4-2: Floppy drive or hard drive failure ¶

This computer doesn’t have a floppy drive, so it’s a hard drive failure. Get the hard drive replaced by a professional.

Any other beep code: bring the laptop to get fixed by a professional ¶

My Satellite 2435-S255 is Overheating ¶

Your Satellite is running very hot

There is dust building up in the laptop that prevents proper ventilation ¶

Check the cooling vent on the back of the laptop to see if there is any visible dust there. If there is try to clear it out. You should also open up the laptop and check inside for dust.

===The heat sink is not working properly===

The heat could be malfunctioning, and should be replaced. See the heat sink replacement guide.

The fan is broken ¶

Check to see if you can hear the fan running when your Satellite is hot. If the fan is not running then it may be broken. If it is broken it should be replaced with a new one.

My Satellite 2435-S255 screen does not display anything when it is turned on ¶

Your Satellite seems to be working, but nothing comes up on the screen

The screen is broken ¶

The laptop display screen could be broken and in need of replacement. See the monitor replacement guide for more information on replacing the screen.

My Satellite 2435-S255 cannot connect to the internet ¶

You are not able to get on the internet using this laptop.

The hardware wireless switch is set to off ¶

Check the wireless antenna on/off switch on the left side of the laptop to see if wireless is turned on or off.

There are many other possible causes of your internet not working including but not limited to a problem with your internet browser, a problem with your modem/router, etc. This guide is only based on the Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255 so these other issue will not be covered here.
