Main Brush Is Blocked
Long hair, threads, or pet hair often wrap around the main brush and can block it completely.
- Remove the brush from the housing.
- Carefully cut through the wrapped hair or threads with scissors or tweezers.
- Make sure not to damage the bristles.
Once the brush can be turned easily by hand again, the problem is usually fixed.
Side Brush No Longer Spins
The small side brushes can also get stuck, usually around the axle. Carefully pull off the brush, remove hair and dirt, then firmly reattach it. Make sure it can spin freely without resistance or scraping noises.
Brush Installed Incorrectly
After cleaning, the brush may be slightly misaligned. Remove it again and insert it correctly until it audibly clicks into place. Test: It should turn smoothly by hand without catching.
Foreign Objects Are Blocking the Brush
Small objects such as coins, pebbles, or toy parts can block the brush compartment. Carefully check the area around the brush mount and remove anything that doesn’t belong there. Tip: A small flashlight helps you inspect tight spaces.
Drive Belt Has Slipped Off or Torn
Many models use a small rubber belt, or drive belt, to power the brush. If the brush turns freely by hand but stays still when the vacuum starts, the belt may have slipped off or become brittle.
👉 Reattach it or replace it with a new one. Replacement belts are inexpensive and usually easy to replace yourself.
Brush Motor Is Defective
If the brush turns freely by hand but still doesn’t move when the vacuum starts, the brush motor may be defective. In this case, a repair is needed, or the motor must be replaced. Some models require opening the housing, so check a suitable guide or iFixit beforehand to see whether your model is easy to access.
Brushes Are Worn or Worn Out
Over time, bristles wear down and no longer grip properly, meaning they pick up less dirt. Replace the main and side brushes about every 6–12 months, depending on how often you use the vacuum and the type of flooring you have. New brushes not only improve cleaning performance, but also reduce strain on the motor and extend the battery’s lifespan.
