Does your Ring Video Doorbell refuse to connect to Wi-Fi or have a poor Wi-Fi connection? Is the Ring, Motion, or Live View failing to connect? Are you occasionally not receiving notifications? Ring Video Doorbells are susceptible to a range of problems that could cause the device to have a poor Wi-Fi connection or not connect at all. Check the following possible causes to identify and solve the problems.

Causes

1

If your Ring Video Doorbell is experiencing poor and delayed video and is occasionally not receiving notifications, your Wi-Fi router channel might be over-crowded. Most Wi-Fi routers are automatically set to switch channels to the least crowded, though some routers require this to be done manually. Check to make sure that your Ring Video Doorbell is not connected to an overcrowded router channel by following the instructions here. By switching channels, you can reduce interference and improve the Wi-Fi signal for your Ring device.

2

If your Ring, Motion, or Live View is failing to connect or taking more than a few seconds to connect, the Wi-Fi router might be placed in a poor location relative to the Ring device. Wi-Fi routers have limited reach, so poor router placement can cause weak or no Wi-Fi signal. Move your Wi-Fi router to a location within 200 feet of the Ring Doorbell device and try to connect to the Wi-Fi again.

If the above solutions do not fix the Wi-Fi connection issues with your Ring Doorbell, the device may be trying to connect to a faulty “suggested network.” This can happen because of a change of broadband provider to your home. When setting up your Ring Doorbell, there will be a portion that asks whether you want to connect to the suggested network. At this point, click ‘No,’ and this will take you to a list of nearby Wi-Fi network choices. Choose the correct Wi-Fi network and enter the network’s password manually. If you are not setting up your Ring Doorbell for the first time, you may need to reset the device for this solution to work.
