Nokia Lumia 920 Troubleshooting

The Nokia Lumia 920, developed by Nokia and released on November 2012, utilizes Windows Phone 8 operating system.

Nokia Lumia 920 won’t turn on ¶

No matter what you do, you can't get your Nokia Lumia 920 to turn on.

Charge your phone. ¶

Charge your phone fully, at least 4 hours then try to turn it on.

Soft reset your phone. ¶

Press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys simultaneously for 15 seconds. After some time, the phone may vibrate then release the button and the phone will restart.

Hard reset your phone. ¶

Go to Settings > About > Reset your phone . This will bring back the phone to factory defaults. Remember if you do this, it will erase all your personal content on your phone.

If you cannot access the phone settings, follow the steps below:

  • Disconnect the phone charger.
  • Press and hold the Power and Volume Down keys simultaneously.
  • Release the pressed keys when phone vibrates and then immediately press and hold the volume down button until the phone displays an exclamation mark (!) on the screen
  • Release the volume down key.
  • Then press the volume and power keys in the following order: volume up, volume down, power, and volume down.
  • Wait for your phone to reset, during the reset you will see gears rotating on the screen for up to 5 minutes, after which the screen goes blank for 30 seconds and then your phone will restart.
  • Go through the initial phone setup. Make sure that you have the date and time set correctly on your phone by going to Settings > date+time.

Phone is not charging ¶

Charge your phone. ¶

If the battery is completely empty, charge your phone again for at least 20 minutes using phone's wall charger. And if you try this with computer USB, those typically supply less current and charging time is much longer. Then try to turn on the phone again.

Remove the battery and reset the phone. ¶

  • Remove the battery for about 30 seconds and put the battery back in the phone.
  • Leave the phone connected to charger, then press and hold the power and volume down keys simultaneously until the phone vibrates.
  • Release and the phone will reset.

Use another charger. ¶

Try the charger with another compatible phone to check if the problem is with the charger.

Phone stays at the spinning gears ¶

Short battery life ¶

My audio works fine, but the microphone does not seem to be working. ¶

The person I am calling can not hear me.

Check Mute button. ¶

Check that the microphone is not muted.

Try going to a quieter area. ¶

Test headphone jack. ¶

Connect a wired headphone that has a microphone. If the headphones work while connected, remove wired headphones and continue onto troubleshooting the internal microphones.

Test the audio. ¶

Restart the phone and test if the audio is working. Select one or both of the following options:

  • Option 1: Record a new voice note: Select Start > Messaging > New (+) > Attach > Tap Voice Note to start recording > Tap Done and play the recording. > If you can hear the recording, the microphone is working.
  • Option 2: Test your outgoing audio by making a Skype test call: Start Skype app > search for Skype Sound Test service (echo123) in your contact list > Tap Call > Talk and listen to see if you can hear yourself.

Locate the phone's microphone. ¶

Locate the phone's microphone and see if the opening is blocked.

  • If the opening is blocked, try to gently clear the blockage.
  • If it is not blocked, the internal microphone may need to be replaced.
