Lenovo IdeaPad A1-07 Troubleshooting
The Lenovo IdeaPad A1-07 was released in October 2011 and has a 7-inch display. The tablet weighs 14 ounces and is 12 mm thick, featuring front and back cameras, and Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities.

Tablet Won’t Turn On ¶
The screen on the tablet is black and will not turn back on.
Drained Battery ¶
If your tablet will not turn back on when you press the power button, you may have drained your battery. Test to see if pressing down the power button for five seconds will start up the tablet. If the device does not power on, then plug the tablet into the power adapter. Look for the green LED charging light at the bottom of the tablet to appear, if it illuminates then the problem lies in a drained battery. Charging the tablet will kick start the tablet to power back on after a few minutes of charging. If the light does not appear, try a different charging cord.
Faulty Adapter ¶
If the tablet does not turn on after plugging it into the adapter, the adapter may be at fault. To test the adapter, plug it into a different device. If the device charges and a green LED light appears at the bottom of the tablet, then the device has a battery problem. If the device does not charge and no LED light appears, then the adapter is at fault. Replace the adapter with a new one and charge the device.
Degraded Battery ¶
If charging the tablet or testing the adapter do not start up the device, then a dead battery could be at fault. To test the battery try charging the device with different power adapters, if this fails to start up the tablet, then the battery completely fried. It is common for a battery to die from daily use and age, and will need to be replaced.
System Failure ¶
If the tablet will not turn back on after charging the device, then a system failure could be occurring. To fix this problem the tablet needs to be restarted to help reboot the system. There are three different forms of rebooting and, depending on the severity of the problem, will decide which restart will work for the tablet.
First start with a “soft” reset. With the tablet plugged into the power cord, hold down the power button at the top right hand corner for 10 seconds. Next, hold the power button for 3-5 seconds. If this does not turn your tablet back on, then the tablet needs to be rebooted into recovery mode.
To reboot your tablet into recovery mode, hold down the power and volume down button until a recovery menu pops up. Use the volume buttons to navigate the menu and select “reboot system now” with the power button. To confirm this selection press the power button. If this fails to restart your tablet then the device needs to be restored to its factory settings. While rebooting into recovery mode, if an image of an arrow pointing towards an android symbol appears, then a re-installation of the android operating system is required.
Disclaimer: by performing a factory reset all data will be lost on the tablet.
To restore the tablet to factory settings hold down the power and volume down button until a menu pops up. Using the volume buttons as the navigation tool, hover over “wipe data (factory reset)”. Select by pressing down on the power button to confirm this action.
Battery Life Draining Quickly ¶
The tablet’s battery life drains excessively, even when not in use.
Running Background Apps ¶
If the device’s battery drains very quickly, it could be running several applications in the background simultaneously, despite not being in use. First, go into the device settings to look at what is draining the battery. To do this, go to “Settings,” select “About Tablet,” then select “Battery Usage.”
Once the open applications have been determined, you can return to “Settings,” select “Apps,” and swipe menu to the left until you reach the list of apps under “Running.” Now you can select any apps in the list and select “Stop” to close the app.
You can also turn off the device’s Wi-Fi when not in use to slow down battery loss.
Battery Life Gauge is Out of Sync ¶
If the battery is still draining quickly the battery could fine, but the battery gauge could be out of sync. Recalibrate the battery gauge to sync up the battery to the tablet. The best way to do this is to allow the device to discharge completely until it dies, and then fully re-charge the tablet to 100%. This should re-sync the gauge to the battery.
Dust Build Up Around Battery ¶
If battery life troubles still persist, it could be a problem with the battery itself. There could be dust built up where the battery connects with the tablet, or it could have shifted out of place.
To access the battery, remove the back panel of the device and unscrew the plastic grey frame. Once the back panel has been taken off, disconnect the battery, blow off any dust or residue from the battery and device, and reconnect battery
Battery has Degraded Over Time ¶
If none of the above troubleshooting has improved your device’s battery life, the battery itself may have just degraded to the point of low functionality. You can replace it using this replacement guide.
Wi-Fi Not Connecting or Dropping Out ¶
The device has trouble connecting or staying connected to Wi-Fi
Router is Not Correctly Plugged In ¶
If the Wi-Fi keeps disconnecting, the cable to the router may not have been plugged in correctly. Reset the router and reconnect the internet to your device. If this does not work, then restart the tablet and reconnect it to the Wi-Fi.
Over Populated Wi-Fi Network ¶
Having too many people connected to the same Wi-Fi can cause the internet to run slow or the Wi-Fi to drop out. To fix this, either make sure your Wi-Fi is set up privately or boot others off the Wi-Fi signal. If none of these options work, then call your internet carrier to fix the problem.
Insecure Wi-Fi ¶
If the network fails to stay connected to the device, then there could be insecure Wi-Fi connection. Download the app called “Wi-Fi static” that will keep your device locked onto a Wi-Fi signal. Once downloaded, the app should give you instructions on how to secure the Wi-Fi on your device.
SD Card Problems ¶
Several memory-storage applications, such as music and camera, show error messages about not recognizing an SD card.
No SD Card Inserted ¶
If the tablet has error messages about not recognizing an SD card, there may be no SD card inserted. Check the SD card port at the bottom of the device by pulling back the protective covering. If your device is new, it may have a further protective plug inserted in the slot. Remove that, and insert a formatted SD card.
Firmware Problems ¶
If the tablet is not updated to the most recent Android version or needs to reinstalled, it could be causing a firmware bug that cannot read the SD card. Go into “Settings” and check for any needed updates for the tablet.
SD Card Slot Damaged or Dirty ¶
If the SD card slot is damaged or dirty the tablet will not properly read the SD card. Disassemble the device and inspect the SD card port for damage - an incorrectly inserted SD card can damage the port. Also check for contaminants: dirt, lint, or any food particles wedged in the slot.
Corrupted SD Card ¶
If the above solutions do not solve the problem, then your current SD card may be fault. The SD card may be corrupted. Reformat the SD card using a computer, or insert a new SD Card and to do this, you can go to setting icon and find storage where it says SD card options then press Erase card or Format SD card.
Unresponsive Screen ¶
The screen locks up during use, and will not respond to touch. Other applications function properly, displaying normal screen operation, rotation, and working volume and power buttons.
System is Frozen ¶
Sometimes normal conditions cause the screen to seize and become unresponsive. Reboot the tablet to help restart the system. If this cannot be performed without the touchscreen, a hard shutdown is required. Hold the power button at the top of the tablet down for 10 seconds to turn off the tablet, then press the button down again for 3 seconds to startup the device.
Calibration of the Touchscreen is Off ¶
If the screen is still unresponsive after rebooting, then the touchscreen may be not calibrated correctly to the tablet. Do another hard shutdown, and boot back up into recovery mode by holding down the power and volume up buttons at the same time. In recovery mode, scroll using the volume up and down buttons to the screen calibration buttons, select it using the power button, then follow the instructions to re-calibrate the touchscreen.
Broken Screen or Connector ¶
If the above solutions do not solve the problem, then the tablet screen may be faulty, or the connectors inside are out of place. Disassemble the tablet and inspect the screen connector for dirt and damage, and reset it. Check the tablet again for screen response. If the screen is still not working, screen replacement is required.
