Battery Fails to Charge
The device is plugged into a power source, but the battery won’t charge.
Bad Battery
Batteries degrade over time. If the power light fails to illuminate and the speaker won't make any noise the battery may be dead. Open the device and replace the battery.
Bad Charging Cable
Wear to the power cable may cause it to fail. If the cable exhibits signs of wear and the device fails to charge, try using a new cable to see if the device will charge.
Broken Charging Port
Charging port on the device may be broken due to wear. Disassemble the device and replace the charging port.
Bluetooth Connection Doesn’t Work
Cannot pair other devices via Bluetooth.
Too Many Devices
Another device may be connected to the speaker. Check for nearby devices and unpair them, then try to pair your preferred device again. You can force an unpair by reseting the device to factory defaults. See below how to do this.
Damaged Bluetooth
The Bluetooth chip in the device may be damaged. A damaged chip will prevent the device from pairing via Bluetooth. Disassemble the device and replace the Bluetooth chip.
Device Needs To Be Reset
While the device is powered on, press and hold the ‘Play’ and ‘Volume Up’ buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds to factory reset the device.
Audio Issues
Vibration in the speaker, intermittent sound, or no sound at all.
Check that the Battery Holds a Charge
Check the power light on the device to make sure it's maintaining power. If the device loses power quickly after charging, the battery should be replace.
Adjust Screws Around Speaker
If there is a buzzing or rattling sound, disassemble the device and make sure that all screws surrounding the speakers are tightened. Loose screws may contribute to audio buzzing.
Inspect Speaker Wire
Disassemble the device and inspect the speaker wires to make sure they are not broken.
Check for Speaker Damage
Inspect the speaker for cracks or debris. If the speaker is damaged, disassemble the device and replace the speaker.
No Sound at All
If the power light is illuminated, but the speaker makes no sound, disassemble the device and verify that the wire connecting the speaker to the mainboard is intact.
Audio Issues When Using Aux In
Garbled sound or no sound at all when using the Auxiliary Input (Aux In) port.
Clean the Aux In Port
Locate the port labeled “Aux In” and use compressed air to clean out any dust or dirt that may be trapped in there, then try using the port again.
Check Aux In Connection
Make sure that the Aux In cable is seated properly and has a steady connection. If the Aux In connection has persistent issues, it may be damaged. Open the device and replace the connector.
A Button Doesn’t Function
Pressing a button has no effect.
Attempt to Unstick the Button
The button may be stuck. Turn off the device and lightly press the button for several seconds. Attempt to unstick the button by gently pressing it repeatedly. If the button fails to respond or responds only intermittently, disassemble the device and inspect the rubber membrane and contacts for wear, Replace as necessary.
Clear Any Debris
There may be debris blocking the button’s contacts. Disassemble the JBL Xtreme and clear any debris around the buttons, membranes, and contacts.

My speaker Buzz is real hard on the right side when the bass hits . Percussion cone on the outside is probably cracked or damaged how do I repair it and where do I buy a new one

I wouldnt bother bro, getting a new one bro. Get a different speaker as jbl seem to just be a problem for most people. Mine keeps cutting out. They are obviously a load of junk

The cutting out I found to be a tweeter issue on my Xtreme, replaced the 2 tweeters and no longer cutting out.

Hi! My Jbl xtreme wont turn on without power cord. It only turns on when it plugged in. It flashes the last Fith LED light. If I unplug it, it just dies. Is there any way to fix it? Help me!

I am having the same issue. The speaker won’t power on without being plugged into the wall. Even when powered on, the speaker is unresponsive (buttons do nothing, no sound). The power light is on, white in color and the battery lights are lit, with the fifth light blinking. Anyone else have this?

SAME. I don’t know what I did but a day I reset it because a lot of devices was on the Bluetooth. And the next thing u know its gone. Can only power it on when its plugged in and over 1 light of charge (it actually turns itself on) buttons don’t work at all. If 100% charged u can unplug and turn it on and that’s it. It thinks its charging even though it ain’t. Still doesn’t work at all. Only way to get sound out of it is aux cord. We need a fix.

Step 1: Connect JBL Xtreme to power
Step 2: When JBL Xtreme is in the “stuck” state hold sync/connect/infinnity simple and volume up until all LEDs turn on
Step 3: Unplug from power (if this doesn’t shut JBL Xtreme down then shut it down) and turn your (hopefully) now fully functioning JBL Xtreme on like normal by pressing the power on button.

I also have the same problem but by accident I could turn it on by clicking many times quickly and in different rhythm.

Same problem after trying to reset to clear bluetooth connections. While plugged in I pressed a lot of buttons with nothing working but eventually it did. I think what worked was holding the Connect/Link button and the Volume + button at the same time. After 5 seconds or so the 5th flashing light turned purple and the device was responsive again.

Hey Javier! I had the same issue when I used to have a JBL Xtreme (the original version) I had to buy a replacement battery & replace it. It helped to only extend the battery/speaker life by 3-4 months. I figured to buy a new JBL Xtreme, (to get the Xtreme 3 or 2) would be better. They’re about $250-$350 each. But the current one I have is the JBL Xtreme 3. This 1 has been lasting me almost 2 years now. I also figured buying a new speaker would be better than to keep messing around with the speaker every time it has problems & keep buying a replacement battery.

Hi! I have a jbl xtreme which suddenly went blank as in the power lights are on but there is no startup noise & no sounds at all while playing any songs. The Bluetooth is connected though & it's even pairing with new devices. So I have disassembled the jbl xtreme & inspected all the wiring & everything seems to be fine. No loose connection or broken wire. Now what should I do. Please help.

Finally someone with the same problem as me. Did it work okay if it was on the charger? I have the xtreme 3 with all the same symptoms but if plugged into the wall it works fine. But you have to get it playing and then plug it in as it won't work if you plug it in first. Did you ever find a solution? I know it's been a long time.

Wrong combination - Buttons for Reset!
Yesterday, i burst my xTreme, because i accidentally pressed the wrong combination!
Instead of: “Loudness + and Play“, i pressed:
Loudness + and Connect! for 3 seconds.
This burst my xTreme!
After shutdown - no start again - dead!
Only, when i connect the charger, the 5 small LED’s and the Power Button are lighting!
I am waiting for an answer from JBL…..
So please DON’T press the wrong combination !!!!!!!!!

Hi Lothar i had the sam issue like you and i managed to fix it just plug the device to power and press and hold ( Connect [the button looks like infinity symbol]) + (Voulme+) for 10 s then one of charge LED indicators blinks red and it is done

If you are using a direct connection(Aux cable), the electrical current in the line will make it hum if it is crossed. Uncross it.
If you are using Bluetooth, your device volume might be too low and the speaker volume too high. increase the device volume and decrease the speaker volume.

I recently got JBL Xtreme and got a weird problem. Whenever I play sequence of songs over blue tooth (e.g. Radio, or playlist etc ), speaker plays only first song and become silent after that. I have to stop and play song again from the Device.
It is working fine for other bluetooth speaker I have. Issue is only with JBL Xtreme.

I just got off the phone with JBL they seemed to think that it’s a problem with the Bluetooth contained in the speaker. They are sending me a return shipping label and will be sending out a new replacement. Hope this helps.

Even a friend of mine has this problem I replaced the battery and the casing comes on normally and works (because the old battery was dead). However, when a certain volume level is reached, the speaker starts to flash intermittently, as if it were going to be protected (as the intermittence only occurs during the peaks of the selected audio track). I also tried to reset and other combinations that could have the speaker amplifiers in protection, but nothing was successful. So at this point I think it's the motherboard's fault. I also successfully updated the jbl with the JBL connect app, but I still can not understand the usefulness of the service port next to the AUX in. If someone could help me, they would do me a big favor.

My Jbl has a battery issue, since the expense is high, I opt for using the JBL through AC supply, rather changing the battery. Will that be an issue playing thru continuous power supply? Will there be any battery explosion or such? That's my prime concern. Can anyone suggest.

Hi Guys, I have JBL xtreme… At first it has sound then after 5 - 10 minutes there will be no sound at all. My battery is half and my AUX is good. So sometimes I turn it off then on again but it happens again.

Just got a replacement Xtreme for my old one, due to the battery going from 15 hours life to 10 minutes over a month period.
This new one has issues with white noise: it’s noticeably louder than my previous one. It also makes a popping noise and the sound delays slightly when connecting/disconnecting the power cable, and is noticeably quieter on battery. It also lets out a random fuzz/distorted sound occasionally when connected to bluetooth but nothing is playing.
Has anyone else got these issues?

I Recently bought a JBL Xtreme. I did a hard reset because it doesn’t work correctly. The Device Needs To Be Reset Information written above is quite wrong and won’t work!
The proper way to reset the JBL Xtreme: With the Xtreme ON, press and hold the VOL+ and Pause/Play buttons for 5-6 seconds. The Xtreme shuts down, and is now reset.
(According a staff answer in Product Q&A ).

JBL extreme is not getting connected in connect + Party mode App other JBL speakers like charge 3 and flip 4. I have upgraded the speaker but it doesn't work. It doesn't connect with connect + to any other JBL speakers. Charge 3 and flip 4 all get connected in Party mode but not extreme. I brought JBL extreme speakers From kuwait, And if there's no solution to it and never connect s with other jbl speakers, then a video Will be uploaded to YouTube so others are aware of not purchasing this speakers. hello, I have a jbl xtreme speaker and I do not want to charge the battery, I replaced it with a new one, check the charger to make sure it has no problem. It's a problem because of what I see as a mechanical component that controls that function, I can not return it because I'm in Cuba and I buy it in the United States and it takes me months to travel. My JBL Extreme keeps turning off randomly even after it is fully charged. However, it doesn’t turn off when it’s plugged in. At first I thought because the volume was too high it would turn off. That doesn’t seem to be the problem because even when it’s low it’s turns off. When it’s high it turns off a lot faster though.

When I press the power button it's blink together with the connect button (for pairing with another speaker). When the speaker is connected with power cord both buttons are constantly illuminated. Can anyone advise me with the following problem:
My JBL Xtreme is not charging with the cable (19V) plugged in, checked the outgoing voltage of the charge pin19V. So OK. No white LEDS are blinking while connected to the net.
The outgoing voltage of the battery is 7.4V also according to the product specs. But the red LED is blinking with the battery connected. So the JBL is doing nothing.
Can anyone advise me on this matter? How is it possible the device isn’t working with a battery that measures 7.4V? How is it possible the white leds aren’t blinking when the power cable is connected to the net? I checked the I/O board, looks a bit ‘burnt’ but the AUX - Micro USB - charging pin - is working properly….

Something weird is going on. I would play music on my Xtreme, and the battery indicator would show 5 LEDs. After a small while, it will come back to the last red LED. When I plug it in it will show its actual level, which is about 3 LED lights or 4. Any idea what’s going on??

Can someone help me. Bought two flip 4’s to connect to my Extreme and I can’t get the Extreme to connect with them. In the JBL connect app I can either have the flip 4’s together or the extreme by itself. If I turn on the flip 4’s it just kicks the extreme of the network. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong????

Hi everyone, so a little back ground. I have a samsung with a JBL SB 250 sound bar with the optics connection. The tv remote worked right up until I touched and created a static shock.. now the v remote will not control the volume at all. The original remote still works for the sound bar. Any ideas? I went through the learning the remote and got the white light after each step but still nothing.

I replaced the battery in my JBL Xtreme & connected the A/C adapter to charge the new battery - but it still won’t work... My JBL comes on & then it cuts off within a couple of minutes... A red light flashes which indicates the battery isn’t charged ( none of the white lights for the charge level are lit)... I plugged my iPhone into 1 of 2 USB ports on my JBL w/ the A/C adapter still connected - which I’ve done before to charge my iPhone, but now my iPhone won’t charge as it should... Does anyone know what the problem is ? Is it possibly the A/C adapter ? Thank you :)

most likely some component on the circuit board came loose when it fell. If you can solder I would recommend checking that out. However if you are not confident that you could fix the circuit then try to find someone who is.

Hello everyone!
My issue is it won't charge. It turns on and then the red light flashes. Keeps on flashing whether it's plugged in or not. Sound works fine. This has only started to occur a few days ago. Nothing happened to the cable or speaker as far as I know.

Hi, bought my JBL xtreme 3 last summer, havent tried using the USB ports because I always had internet …. couple months ago i went to Cuba on vacation and the wifi was crap so i tried to plug USB stick to play music…. well, it does not work! Just so we are clear this is a brand new speaker from best buy. Please advise.

I’m having a problem with my JBL extreme 2 speaker. I’ll be listening to it and all the sudden it disconnects from the Bluetooth on my phone randomly. I’ve tried factory reset and it’ll work for a while and then the same thing happens again after about an hour or so. I’ve tried everything I’ve heard people talk about online but nothing seems to work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

I just found out about a “secret function” of the jbl extreme, a youtuber shows that if you press the bt and volume down button for 10 seconds, the bass will go down. If you press the bt and volume up button for 10 seconds, the bass will go up. I tried this and it worked! But i’m worried this moght damage my jbl . Could that be ? Please help me

Hi, i saw a video on youtube, wich shows you how to increase and decrease the bass of the jbl extreme but this trick is not advertised, so they call it a “secret trick” wich i think is kind of weired. My JBL is connected to my PC through aux and has power cord on 24/7. If I don’t play any sound through it for say 30 minutes the speaker “deactivates”. It looks like it is on and all of the lights are on but I can’t get any sound out of it before rebooting it. Any fixes?

READ THIS IT MIGHT HELP
So if your JBL Xtreme is “Stuck” where it responds to charge and only works with AUX cord when power is plugged in. “Stuck”=where no buttons work and when you unplug JBL Xtreme from power it powers off instantly (if its 100% you can actually power it on short moments after you unplug it from power but it doesn’t fix anything). The reset (Bluetooth and volume up until all LEDs turn on and then JBL Xtreme turn off) doesn’t fix the problem which is the only command that seems to “work”(more like respond).
Is that the problem you’re having? If so follow these steps to fix it
Credit goes to Reza for this fix.
Step 1: Connect JBL Xtreme to power
Step 2: When JBL Xtreme is in the “stuck” state hold sync/connect/infinnity simple button and volume up until all LEDs turn on
Step 3: Unplug from power (if this doesn’t shut JBL Xtreme down then shut it down normally by pressing the power button) and turn your (hopefully) now fully functioning JBL Xtreme on like normal by pressing the power on button.

Yep. JBL have issues with Bluetooth. Extreme won’t pair or work with anything. It’s 4 years old. Sound bar needs to be reset every few days and re paired for it to work. No more JBL for me. I learnt the hard way.

I replaced the battery with 8 18650s. 4 on each side.
The speaker plays well but jst the charging issue. When I put it on charging the led glows till 4 leds takes about 2 hrs and then it keeps flashing the 5th one and after about an hour it goes back to 3 leds with 4th led flashing, how can I know when my speaker is fully charged. I tested the batteries they are of nice quality no degradation.

Everything worked fine until yesterday. When I pressed the power button it won’t turn on. It does only when the power cord is connected.

For your speaker not to turn off could be that your speaker power button is not functioning and for the speak not playing audio I advise you check that the speaker is firmly connected to the board.if I may ask,does your speaker make the power on sound?if no then the speaker must have had a bad contact with the board.

The problem with mine is that when I plug the charger (after the battery is fully drained) 4 lights lit up in few seconds and the 5th keeps blinking indefinitely. It has been like that since a couple of months after I bought it (brand new).

Hi. Why does my JBL extreme 2 not play notifications on iPhones? I’ve reset the dam thing 100 times , reset everything on the phone. Hate it. On my old iPhone 12 I had to turn off the JBL and music apps for 30 seconds or so every dam time I turn it on then turn them back on and sometimes that would work which is a pain in the ass! Bluetooth works great in my car. When someone calls , it turns off and rings which is great. I hate this. Been dealing with this $@$* for years.

My 7 year old Xtreme was cutting out after about 10 - 15 minutes on a full charge.
It still showed 4 or 5 bars on the LEDs when it died.
If I tried it plugged in to the mains power it worked so after a few months I got round to changing the battery.
I bought a cheap battery (around 10 bucks) that is no doubt fake but it gets me through the day no problem.
As for those of you saying that JBL are junk. I have an Xtreme, a Boombox and two Flip 3s, and the only problem I had with any of them was the battery on the Xtreme.
Rechargeable batteries have a limited life span, no matter what they are in. Whether it's speakers, your car, your mobile phone or your laptop. You're going to have to change them eventually, and that's in no way a reflection on JBL.
