HP Pavilion x2 10-n113dx Troubleshooting

This troubleshooting page will help you fix common problems with the HP Pavilion x2 10-n113dx.

Laptop will not turn on ¶ 

When the power is pressed, the computer doesn't respond.

Dead battery ¶ 

If the device does not turn on when you press the power button. First plug in the laptop to charge the battery. If the laptop still does not respond, you may have a dead battery. In order to disassemble the laptop to access the battery, follow these instructions.

Charging plug or outlet may be broken ¶ 

Turn off the computer and disconnect all tables from the device including USB/charger port and any external devices. After, try blowing compressed air into the outlet to clean any debris, and reconnect the charger. If the computer reads the charger, a green or red light will appear below the charger port.

Keyboard does not respond ¶ 

When pressing the keys on the keyboard, the laptop doesn't acknowledge anything is being pressed.

Keyboard is old and worn out ¶ 

Turn off the laptop and disconnect all AV cables from the device including USB/charger ports, HDMI, and external devices. Reset the laptop either by choosing the restart option on the power panel or by holding down the power button for 15 seconds, reconnect the charger port.

Fan overheats ¶ 

Turn off the laptop and flip the laptop on its back face to expose the fan port. Remove the screws that hold the fan port and blow compressed air into the fan to remove any debris. Add the screws back, close the port, and restart the laptop. Due to the excess heat, the keyboard may malfunction.

Screen remains black after the power button is pressed ¶ 

After pressing the power button, the laptop powers on but the screen remains black.

Broken screen ¶ 

Connect an external monitor to test the display. If nothing appears the prime solution would be to replace the screen completely. Follow these instructions to replace a broken screen.

Screen is malfunctioning ¶ 

Press power button to turn off laptop and disconnect all AV cables including USB/ charger ports, HDMI, and external devices. Hold down power button for 10-15 seconds to make a hard reset. After shutting down the laptop, press the power button to restart device.

Laptop overheats ¶ 

Laptop gets extremely warm and starts blowing warm air out of vent, fan makes noise, and laptop slows down.

Dust accumulating and clogging air vents inside ¶ 

Turn laptop power off and disconnect all AV cables including USB/ charger ports, HDMI, and external devices. Locate the air vents on the side of the laptop. Clean the laptop air vents by blowing out the dust from the fan and heat shield and spray compressed air.

A new component of power supply causes laptop to work harder ¶ 

Turn laptop power off and disconnect all AV cables including USB/ charger ports, HDMI, and external devices. Spray with compressed air to remove dust which will increase the air flow to improve cooling and allow fans to run quieter.

Touchpad doesn't respond ¶ 

When trying to move the mouse, nothing happens.

Battery for the touchpad is dead ¶ 

Replace the touchpad battery. You might also have to replace the tracking pad completely from your laptop.

Touchpad is dirty ¶ 

Using a soft cloth, like a microfiber cloth wipe down the tracking pad making sure water or any other liquid does not leak between the keyboard cracks.
