Dell Inspiron 17R-N7110 Troubleshooting

i5 processor. Release date: ?

Overheating Causing Shutdown ¶

Laptop overheats and shuts down

Check Air Vents ¶

Check for proper air flow. Make sure the vents are not obstructed and that there are no lints or dust bunnies inside the air vents. Remove cover and clean the air vents.

Check fan ¶

Make sure the fan is turning on and blowing hot air away from the laptop. If the fan does not switch on when the laptop is hot, check the fan power connections and replace the fan if necessary.

Check for warm blowing air ¶

If the vents are clear and the fan turns on, but the air coming out is room temperature while the laptop overheats, then there is inadequate contact between the heat sink and the processor. Open the laptop, separate the heatsink from the processor, clean off any old thermal paste between the two surfaces, reapply new thermal paste and reattach the heatsink to the processor.
