Answer to: Why won't the cassette player play my tapes?Hi, Cassettes can be tricky sometimes. Make sure that the cassette is in the player correctly. Then try cleaninging out the player and see if anything improves--this can make a difference sometimes. You should check to see if the cassette is turning like it should be. If it's turning like it should, but not working, it's most likely a problem with the cassette. If it's not turning at all, check the batteries or the plug before reading further. If you hear any whirling, or the cassette player refuses to run, this could be a problem with the motor that turns the cassette. If you think this might be the case, start by heading over to our troubleshooting page here to see what matches your issue more closely.
Answer to: Why is the music coming from the radio fuzzy?Hi, It sounds like you're having some reception problems, but it could also be your mode setting. The first thing that you should check is the small-ish black mode-switch on the top of the CFD-8, to the left of the CD player. This designates the mode that the CD is in: AM, FM, or CD. Even if you think it's on the correct setting, you should still move the switch to see if it is all the way in the correct position. This is a VERY common mistake, so check this first. Also, make sure that the tuner is directly on the number that you want. If you're looking for channel 104.7, for example, it's likely that 104.4 will give you a fuzzy reception. If you're in a rural area, you'll want to make sure that the antenna is pointed upward to recieve a signal. Is the Antenna bent or broken? Learn how to replace one here: Sony CFD-8 Antenna Replacement. Its also worth noting that longer antennas make for better reception. If you can find a longer antenna to screw in, go for it! Lastly, other technology could be interfering w...
Answer to: Why is the CD player skipping during songs?Hi, The CD player can skip or stop playing tracks due to a number of reasons: I'll start by listing the most common problems. The first thing you'll want to check is the CD itself. The player may skip tracks because the CD is scratched. Clean the CD gently with rubbing alcohol and a clean cloth. Just to make sure, put a different CD in the player and see if that one works before attempting to pull anything apart. Also make sure that the CD is pressed fully down onto the o-ring in the cd player. If it's slightly crooked, this could be your problem. If neither of these apply to you, try cleaning/dusting off the lens for the laser that reads the disk. This lens is located to the left of the o-ring in the CD-player, right underneath where the CD would go. Still no luck?
