Answer to: Replaced Hard Drive...Fan revs up to 5500rpm stillYet another update. This one is to warn people to really pay close attention to the drive that is in their iMac. First, and foremost, the 1TB Seagate drive linked in this guide iMac Intel 27" EMC 2309 and 2374 Hard Drive Replacement will not work properly in a late 2009 27" iMac, model EMC 2374 quad core i5. After my last post I ordered another drive, this time from http://www.macsales.com/. If you look at my last post I determined that the Seagate model# ST31000524AS, again linked in the above guide, had some slight differences from the drive I pulled out of my iMac, which was a Seagate model# ST31000528AS. So, I went to http://www.macsales.com/ and specifically ordered the ST31000528AS. To my surprise they shipped me another ST31000524AS. I called them and explained this, explained why I specifically ordered the ST31000528AS, and was told it was a technical issue and they transferred me. This is where it gets good..The "tech" seemed less than interested in what I was saying and finally interrupted me and st...
Answer to: Replaced Hard Drive...Fan revs up to 5500rpm stillJust an update to my last post. I took the machine apart again and using a can of air blasted all the dust out. I then checked all the connectors and made sure everything looked ok. I pulled the temperature sensor from the drive and the board and then reconnected it, ensuring that the connections were good. I reassembled the machine, plugged it in, and booted it up...same issue. However, my fan will eventually reach about 4.5k RPMs and stay there, not the 5k I reported earlier. Some things to note, the model# for this machine is EMC No 2374. All other fans, and temps, look normal. The HDD temp is at 38C, but the HDD fan is at 4524RPM. The drive I bought, following the guide, was the Seagate model# ST31000524AS. The drive that I pulled out of the machine was the ST31000528AS. The differences can be found here: The ST31000524AS is a 6Gb/s drive whereas the ST31000528AS is 3GB/s: Barracuda SATA Product Manual, Rev. A (ST31000524AS): ST31000524AS Barracuda 7200.12 Serial ATA Product Manual, Rev. C (ST31000528AS):...
Answer to: Replaced Hard Drive...Fan revs up to 5500rpm stillDid you ever remedy this? I recently replaced the drive in my i5 27" iMac with an identical drive bought from this site. I am experiencing the same thing you described. The HD fan will start out at around 2.5k and slowly ramp up to 5k+. I tried everything suggested by the original responders, no luck. Any other ides?
