I did open a PayPal dispute but since the laptop was bought in advance of my daughter's birthday, after I started it up to see if it worked ok on arrival, I then stored it away in my drawer for more than 30 days. By the time she opened it, so much time had passed that the seller argued that I'd damaged it myself :( What a joke. Therefore it was too late for eBay buyer protection and my word against his for PayPal. Never again will I purchase a used laptop. Anyway, the info you've given me above is great.
