usually updates comes to ur phone from some app of the manufacturer . If he doesn't push updates then load a custom rom.

Try putting the old stuff back in and try again. If it works try swapping only the cpu cooler and try again. The problem u describing is often caused by a missplaced ram.

Consider making a fresh install of your OS. If that doesn't help upgrade maybe the CPU the RAM and add a nice SSD. Finally reapply thermal paste to the cpu
