Causes
- Remove the AC power adapter and the removable battery.
- Hold down the power button until it shuts off
- Reconnect AC power adapter and battery
- Turn it back on

Try putting the laptop into Safe Mode. Safe Mode is the laptop running with default settings and basic device drivers.
- From the Shut down or sign out menu, hold the shift key and select Power > Restart
- Select Troubleshoot > Advanced options > Startup Settings > Restart.
- A list of options will appear after the laptop restarts, select 4 or F4.
The laptop will start in Safe Mode. If there is no issue in Safe Mode, the default settings and basic device drivers are not causing the issue.
Take the laptop out of Safe Mode. Use the search bar to search and select Device Manager. A list of drivers and settings will appear. Along the left side, there could be a symbol (exclamation point, question mark, etc.) which indicates that it's bad and needs to be reinstalled. To reinstall, follow these steps:
- Select the Driver or System Setting that needs to be reinstalled.
- Right-click and select Uninstall Device.
- Restart the laptop. This will reinstall the drivers.
A corrupted or misconfigured BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) could prevent the laptop from powering on correctly. Resetting the BIOS to default settings may help resolve this. Refer to this page on the Lenovo site for detailed instructions on what to do. Be sure to backup your data before resetting your BIOS to avoid losing files.
If your hard drive is full or bad it can cause the system to not boot or freeze.
If you can:
- Right-click and select This PC
- Select Open
- Find C: Drive
Check to see how much storage is being used and try to clean it up. Uninstall any desktop apps you don’t need or use Disk Cleanup.
If your storage is not full, then you have a bad hard drive, and it will need to be replaced.
