If the fan in your Lenovo Flex 3-1580 is getting louder, or if the device itself is feeling warmer to the touch, follow this page for solutions.

Causes

We recommend inspecting the vents for any dust build up, as proper ventilation is needed to help keep the device cool.

  1. These will be located at the bottom of the computer that sits on hard surfaces.
  2. You can use compressed air to clear this or can remove the back cover to gently clean with a microfiber towel.

It can be beneficial to check for any updates for any software  that might be out of date.

  1. Start by clicking the start menu in the bottom task bar.
  2. Search for “updates”
  3. And an option will appear to “Check updates”, install any updates this provides.
3

Using a soft surface such as a pillow or a blanket can prevent proper ventilation. Try switching to a hard surface such as a table, counter top, or desk.

The thermal paste on the CPU may need to be reapplied, especially if you're still experiencing overheat after you've cleaned any potential blockages with the compressed air can. Here's how to check your CPU temperature.

  1. With the Lenovo Flex 3-1580 on
  2. Open your Lenovo Vantage app (if not installed, this can be installed in the Windows app store)
  3. Select the Hardware Settings option
  4. Click Power
  5. Then Select Thermal
  6. From here you'll be able to find the CPU temperature and can keep this program running while running anything else to test if the CPU gets really hot (above 80C or 176F).

If this does result in very high temperatures while testing simple programs, this will mean a new layer of thermal paste is needed in order to help bring the temperature down. This Lenovo Vantage app can give you various live details, some other third parties exist, but we recommend using this one.
