The HP Pavilion line of computers was launched on 1995 with the Pavilion PC, HP’s first home computer. The Pavilion brand includes notebooks, laptops, and desktop computers. 17 inch laptops like this one are very large, and so they often have room for more powerful processors. This makes them ideal for more intense computing work, such as animation, rendering, or even gaming. HP Pavilion 17 computers are recognizable by their 17” screen size, which is usually measured across the diagonal of the computer.
To find your exact model of HP Pavilion 17, look for the serial number and/or the model number. This is often on the bottom or side of the laptop, or in the battery compartment if the battery is removable. You can enter these numbers into the HP support website for troubleshooting and specifications. Model numbers are usually formatted like this: ‘dv7-####’. The 7 in dv7 refers to the 17 inch screen, while the series of four numbers can identify the exact model of the computer. In addition to these identifiers, there are two variations of dv7 based on processor. A model with ‘dv7t’ refers to a laptop that uses an Intel processor, while a model with ‘dv7z’ refers to a laptop that uses an AMD processor. As of 2012, the dv7 line of computers is technically out of production, because dv7 laptops have been rebranded and integrated into the HP Envy line of computers.
