My Problem
Started getting "Service Battery" message and the battery was only lasting about 2 hours on a full charge. Plus the computer seemed to be running warm a lot.
My Fix
Very simple. This is one of the best Mac laptops for DIY service Apple ever built. Ten screws on the back and the four most serviced components (memory, hard drive, optical drive and battery) are right there. I've been in there before to max out memory and upgrade to a 1TB hard drive (thinking about SSD options, but macOS Sierra isn't going to support this model, so we'll see) so this repair was familiar territory. The battery replacement was a piece of cake.
An added benefit, my track pad, which I thought was failing, works normally again. It seems that the old battery was bulging in several places and preventing one corner of the track pad from moving. Glad that old battery is out of here!
My Advice
Don't delay if your old battery isn't doing the job. There is nothing to fear if you follow this guide.
My Problem
The trackpad was either failing or erratic when working.
My Fix
Smooth. Everything you need to know is in the instructions.
My Advice
Before you drop your computer off for repair, give the IFIXIT guides a try. They will save you a lot of downtime and money.
Also, keep liquids away from your devices.
My Problem
Well, I did not have an actual problem it was just that the battery that I have had has already passed the 1000 cycles mark which means it can no longer hold the same charge as it previously could. I was still getting a decent usage time of 3+ hours. But I just decided that it is about time to change the battery and at the same time save money while doing so - I live in Dubai, UAE where it would cost around double the amount of buying it from iFixit and take around 5 working days to do it, which is just ridiculous.
My Fix
The replacement of the battery went very smoothly as you can see from the video attached, no challenges whatsoever. It took me around 8 minutes to carry out the repair I just used time-lapse footage to compress it for the viewers pleasure as well as the site's restrictions.
My Advice
Since I have already given my Mac some hardware upgrades along the way 1. 16GB (2x8) Corsair DDR3 1600MHz RAM 2. 500GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO. I thought that it would be worth it to replace the battery to further extend the life of my laptop. So in other words only replace the battery if it is actually damaged or you already have invested in valuable upgrades and you would like to keep the laptop. I bought my Mac in March of 2011 and just replaced the battery in hope for another 5 years!
My Problem
My battery had a good amount of charge cycles and I felt it was time to change the battery.
My Fix
The initial repair was going smooth until I figured out I needed a special screw driver. So I hoped on iFixit and ordered it. Once it came in I was able to complete the job. The screwdriver was a little bigger than the screw but it worked.
My Advice
Follow the guide
My Problem
My wife's 2009 MacBook Pro laptop works fine, except that the battery was "swelling" which meant it was defective - and a fire hazard! Unfortunately, this model MacBook is no longer supported by Apple. Thus, we ordered a battery online, and all went well until I discovered the battery was held in place by trip-wing screws. I had never seen them before, but a quick Google search provided illumination. However, I did not have a try-wing appropriate screwdriver, and we were leaving for a summer of RV travel in a few days. The IFixit website had the needed device - and an option for 2 day delivery - pricy, but worth it in this case.
My Fix
The screwdriver was perfect for the job, and the battery installed in five minutes. The computer is back to functioning normal.
My Advice
If you have an older MacBook Pro laptop, and plan to replace the battery yourself, you might want to order a try-point screwdriver
My Problem
The battery in my wife's MacBook pro was starting to swell, pushing the trackpad out making it unusable.
My Fix
Following the instructions worked perfectly! I just reset the SMC just to be safe before turning on the computer again. Picked up the new battery just fine and it's charging away :)
My Advice
If you're experiencing any battery issues or the trackpad being pushed out, definitely consider replacing the battery. Easy enough and cheaper than the Apple store :)
My Problem
Old battery was damaged. Bulging in size and putting pressure into computer frame
My Fix
Simple repair in this model of MacBookPro. Remove back cover screws. Remove battery screws, then the one battery connector and place the new one.
My Advice
Make sure you get or have the tri-point screw driver. Careful with battery connector looks flimsy.
My Problem
Battery was well beyond its lifetime causing battery depletion very quickly, underneath the laptop was hot in certain areas unhid d I issues with the trackpad.
My Fix
I watched the video for it on I FixIt.com and made sure I ordered that Y Tool screwdriver. I had the 00 one and went to work. It was super easy and now my laptop is much better on all the issues that I mentioned. This was a mid 2009 MacBook Pro.
My Advice
Thanks I Fix It .com and you don't need to pay someone $139 to fix something you can do your self in 10 minutes. :)
My Problem
Battery was old and would no longer hold a charge. I replaced it with one of those cheap batteries online- a $25 replacement. This cheap battery started to fail at %50 power within 8 months. I replaced this battery with the Nutech battery from ifixit. As good life as I remember from when I first bought the computer back in 2009.
My Fix
Very easy. Its funny because it has a sticker that says "please do not remove or replace battery." Its literally the easiest part to replace in the whole macbook.
My Advice
Definitely worth doing if you want more on-the-go working life out of an old macbook. If this were a car, 10% of the cost of the vehicle would be a decent repair, but people wouldn't think twice about replacing the whole car instead of the transmission. However, when it comes to laptops, people just replace the whole thing instead of an easy, $100 part.
My Problem
Battery was not charging anymore.
My Fix
Tool recommendations were right.
Once we got the tri point it was easy
My Advice
Make a drawing of where long and short screws go
