My Problem

To replace my 2639 iMac (27" late 2013) HDD with Samsung 850 PRO SSD

My Fix

It went smooth, thanks to iFixit guides, videos, and tools

My Advice

Take your time to plan and prepare for it, handle the screen with extra care, no need to completely remove the left speaker if you plan to replace the HDD; only moving it a little after unscrewing it will do the job.

My Problem

to replace my 27" iMac 1TB HDD with Samsung 850 PRO 512 SSD

My Fix

It went perfect; thanks to iFixit guides and videos

My Advice

take your time to prepare for this, a clean area and quiet place will help a lot. handle the screen with extra care, and there's no actual need to remove the left speaker completely if you just intend to replace the HDD with an SSD

My Problem

My 2012 iMac turned to be very slow with the latest OS X because of the poor spinning drive performance. Decided to replace it the last Samsung 850 EVO SSD.

My Fix

With the tools and instructions from ifixit, the whole replacement only took me about 1 hour, much easier than I expected.

My Advice

The only advice is to make sure the LCD display is aligned when you put it back to the body. With the adhesive tapes, you don't get second chance to adjust. I had been quite cautious but there's still about 0.5mm difference, though it's barely noticeable.

My Problem

The Mac Mini I had was extremely slow and thankfully had the ability to repair the processor, I did so.

My Fix

It went well, the tools I purchased did the job masterfully.

My Advice

Be patient, be kind, and use cable ties.

My Problem

HDD was failing. Decided to replace it with an SSD.

My Fix

Everything went smoothly in terms of the hard drive replacement in my iMac with one notable exception. I cracked the display while removing it. This was entirely my fault, though. iFixit's tools and tutorials were fantastic. Highly recommend if you're comfortable working on your own system. Just be careful prying up that display!

My Advice

As mentioned above.

My Problem

Had to upgrade my G4 Cube!

My Fix

Perfect! I feel like a brain surgeon!

My Advice

Make sure you get the right tools and follow the right guides! I know a website :-p

My Problem

The hard drive crashed and was not going to spend the money for a new computer.

My Fix

The actual replacement of parts was easy, the re configuring and restoring files was a bit trying . I am not a computer guy, I am a race car mechanic, nuts and bolts are easy-peasy. All the reloading of software and recovering of files took about four hours, the drive took less than hour. Everything is working, so I am thinking of trying more of these kinds of repairs. Could be good, could be bad.

My Advice

Go at these things with an open mind, the piece does not work before you start so it can only get better!

My Problem

The security and torx bits were giving me problems and causing me to not be able to move ahead with my project.

My Fix

thanks to ifixit and the 2 tools they suggested o have all the parts out I needed and am well on my way to the finished project.

My Advice

Wish I had looked here earlier!

My Problem

Decided to upgrade the Fusion drive to full SSD

My Fix

Piece of cake.

My Advice

Just follow instructions carefully. Use some tape on the bottom of the screen to allow it to be positioned and then hinged up and down for connecting and disconnecting the cables during a trial fit.

My Problem

I bought my iMac with only the platter drive because the SSD options were so expensive. After dealing with the slow drive for a while, I found a 256 gb PCIe hard drive on eBay.

My Fix

The guide was spot on. The only hard part of this repair is the screen removal. The directions are clear though, and the removal went perfect. The rest of the steps are basic, and anyone could do them. In fact, anyone could probably remove the screen. It is just stressful because it feels fragile and it is an expensive piece of electronics.

My Advice

I didn't buy the foam iMac pad to hold up the enclosure with the screen removed. I just laid it down on a soft surface. It worked just fine.
