My Problem

One day my MacBook Pro started rattling very loudly whenever the fans came on. It was very annoying and got in the way of my work.

My Fix

It took me about a half hour to complete the repair, except that I had to run out to get a new screwdriver in the middle of the repair. The repair described in the manuals said I would need a phillips screwdriver. But the screws that held down the fans in my MacBook Pro were actually a very small Torx screw (a star hole in the head). I had to get one since it was a very unusual screwdriver to have. Once I had that, the repair went very smoothly after that.

My Advice

Check to make sure which screws are actually holding down the fans - Torx or Phillips and get the right screwdriver.

My Problem

My mac is perfect for what I use it for, want it to last longer so I figure replace the hard drive as my mac is 6 years old

My Fix

The mechanical part was easy, especially with the available guides.

My Advice

Use the proper tool for the job, whats great is ifixit has kits that come with tools

My Problem

Super long start up attempt resulted in slashed circle. Internet search suggested the drive cable as a problem. Ifixit had the parts, they were inexpensive, order and shipping prompt and simple, cool ifixit app gave precise instructions and ,voilà!, I'm back in business in 4 days!

My Fix

As noted above: fast, well documented = success!

My Advice

Go to ifixit first!

My Problem

I blew the screen out of a Ipod Nano 6 gen. I was going to throw it away then found the Ifixit repair article.

My Fix

It couldn't have been any easier. The ifixit article walked me through replacing the screen, and in all it took about 20 minutes.

My Advice

Don't hesitate. Ifixit was a one-stop repair shop.

My Problem

The battery needed replacement

My Fix

Just followed the instructions and everything went smoothly except the Phillips #00 screwdriver was worthless. Wouldn't really grab the screws. Used my own #00 screwdriver and all the screws came out easily.

My Advice

Don't buy the Phillips #00 screwdriver!

My Problem

A few weeks ago I was drinking a cup of lemonade over my laptop.. nothing I wouldn't normally do or hadn't done before. It was a humid day and when I lifted the glass to take a sip, a droplet fell onto my trackpad. I didn't think it was a serious matter so I wiped it off with my finger. I did notice that some moisture did get into the bottom crease; I ignored it. A few minutes later, the bottom inch of my trackpad wasn't working. The trackpad wouldn't sense my finger moving on it. Then the crusor started moving on its own, switching the desktop back and fourth, zooming in and out of websites on its own and opening applications on its own. There was no controlling the crusor. It became so annoying and frustrating that I had to have it repaired. I looked into Apple's Genius' doing it and they charged a whopping $169 for parts and labor (plus tax). When I shared the news with my boyfriend he told me about ifixit. I found the part and tools I needed to do it myself. All together cost was MUCH less than Apple's Genius! THANK YOU ifixit!!!

My Fix

Using the ifixit guide that I found via the search bar, I was able to follow along the really easy steps and replace my trackpad! Easy breezy! My trackpad is back to normal, working like a charm!

My Advice

Don't drink ANY beverages near your Apple Keyboard/Trackpad! Avoid the headache and frustration!! Lol If you do and it becomes damaged, use ifixit!!! Fast Shipping too!

My Problem

the screen had a big black thumb-sized spot right in the middle. I was going to toss it in the bin, then thought, why not see if I can make it work?

My Fix

It was rather difficult to get the back off. The plastic tools provided are a bit too flexible for the task, so I ended up using a paring knife from the kitchen drawer.... The videos available to guide one through the process were very good, and made the job quite simple.

My Advice

I do recommend buying a new back (as I did) in advance, as the process is rough, I suppose even more so if using a paring knife. I found it useful to have a bright light and a magnifier close to hand, as the tiny screws and the ribbon cables are quite small.

My Problem

Corrupted Hard Drive

My Fix

The instruction was very easy to follow. I did it within 15 minutes with a chance to clean the dust inside my MacBook Pro.

My Advice

No need to worry about removing the battery if you are being careful. The OSX installation was a bit nerve wrecking unless you know what to do.

My Problem

After five + years of wii-ing, the DVD drive calls it quits. I tried all of the simple suggestions I found online to get it running again, but my issue was more serious than just a dirty lens. I was about ready to spring for a new non-Wii gaming system, but my daughter was so sad to lose her Wii, that I checked into self repair kits to see if there was a cost effective option. I found just that with the ifixit Wii replacement drive kit.

My Fix

The new DVD replacement arrived on time and in good shape. I ordered the kit as well as I did not own the tri bladed screwdriver needed for disassembly. I followed the easy to follow directions on the website and 20 minutes later the device was up and running.

My Advice

The only issue I ran into was the screws that go through the rubber grommets and fasten the new drive to the Wii box seemed to strip out very easily. I was able to get them tightened but I don't think I will be able to use them again should I ever need to replace this new drive.

My Problem

Driving me crazy

My Fix

Simple fix, very easy.

My Advice

Don't live with a noisy fan... just do it.
