Product Overview

Used in many video game consoles and other devices, this type of fastener is most commonly called by it's incorrect nickname of 4.5mm Gamebit. The correct fastener type and size is 4.6mm Line Head Screw.

Until now, only poor quality 1/4" drive "Gamebits" have been available in the USA, that are unable to reach the recessed screws found on some consoles.

My Problem

A friend asked me to make an upgrade to his Nintendo GameCube. He asked for an addition of a "Xeno-GC" driver chip.

My Fix

The GameCube case needs to be opened with a proprietary "GameBit" driver. Aside from that tool, I only needed to use two smaller Phillips drivers to disassemble every major assembly within the console. Soldering such small points required some attention to detail. Technicians should not expect to be in and out within ten minutes. Small solder points are easy to accidentally overflow onto adjacent points. I did misstep while soldering and had to undo my work. When I purchased a GameBit driver, I also ordered some solder wick. I'm glad that I did. I had to clean up a little extra sloppy solder.

My Advice

If I were to attempt this upgrade again, I would make more effort to mount the driver board onto a stand that would hold the board level. Ensuring that the driver chip is positioned correctly is one of the most essential steps to this upgrade.

My Problem

i had to open a gamecube that had a fan problem. FIXED!

My Fix

MY SON WANTED TO PLAY IT AGAIN AS HE FOUND MY BOX WITH SEGA GAME GEAR, ATARI LYNX AND THE VIRTUAL BOY IN IT. DON'T LEAVE BATTERIES IN YOUR ELECTRONICS AND PUT THEM INTO STORAGE! YOU'LL LEARN HOW TO CLEAN LEAKY BATTERY SPLOOGE REALLY GOOD.

My Fix

FINE, EXTREMELY SIMPLE REPAIR. REMOVE 2 FLEXIBLE RIBBONS AND BAKE TILL DONE.

My Advice

REALLY LEAN ON THE SCREWS AS THEY ARE PROBABLY LOCK TIGHTED IN. THEN SLOWLY BACK THEM OUT. DON'T FORGET TO REPLACE THE SCREWS WITH #4 MACHINE SCREWS IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN. THOSE REVERSE TORX SCREWS SHOULD BE BANISHED TO SCREW PURGATORY.

My Problem

I got this for my gamecube just so i could swap the casing. I have the old gamecube with the digital av out but the console itself looked bad and had scratches. I had another one so i swapped the insides and now my gamecube looks amazing.

My Fix

The gamebit worked flawlessly and with ease. The quality feels good and hasnt given me any problems whatsoever.

My Advice

none really, the gamecube is an easy system to take apart and put back together, shouldnt have a problem at all.
