My Problem

I am in school getting my A+, and this Pro Tech Toolkit has everything that I need to get started.

My Fix

New student and needed to get a toolkit. Mike Myers referred me to this company and it is great.

My Advice

Great company and great products.

My Problem

I recently installed OSX Yosemite on my Mid-2010 MacBook Pro. It had been starting to slow down since Mavericks but was slightly more noticeable again, now that I have Yosemite. So I decided it was time to invest a little to speed 'er up!

My Fix

I bought a little more gear than I needed as i'm planning a few more projects in the future. However, its all bloody good stuff and made my life easy as. The guide on here was brilliant and so easy to follow. I completed the whole job in less than 10 minutes, including a bit of cleaning and dust removal as I went. My Macbook Pro runs so much faster now i'm so happy!!

My Advice

No real advice other than follow the brilliant guides on here, works a treat!! :-)

My Problem

The second hard drive for my MacMini Server crashed. Hopefully the OS was on the first HD so the Mac was still booting fine.

My Fix

It was a bit challenging with a process with this many steps but every step was quite easy to do.

The hardest part was fitting the first HD in place. Like said in the guide, you can't feel if it's in or not and you only know it's not in the right place when trying to put the mobo back in place. I had to try three times before it worked.

I found that aligning the screw holes of the antenna shield with the ones on the HD was the easiest way to be sure that the HD was in the right place.

My Advice

The two hard drives was installed in the factory by Apple, this wasn't the ifixit kit. The screws holding the 2nd HD was torx 8 (not torx 6 like in the ifixit kit) and they were really screwed in not snugged fitted like in the ifixit kit.

My Problem

My phone got wet after a swim in a river & a waterproof case failure. The LED flash would stay on even when I shut down the phone. Also, the phone would pretend it was always plugged into a dock, so the volume buttons would not work & I could not get any sound from videos and music.

My Fix

It was pretty exciting and empowering to take apart my iphone. I must say the magnetic project mat is genius! It made it easy to not lose any screws and keep track of where they came from. The instructions were all clear and well written. I replaced all three things at once, the battery, the rear camera, and the dock connector, and now my phone works great!

My Advice

I made two mistakes:

1. I touched the little sticker with an alcohol soaked Q-tip while cleaning the parts before reassembly- and it turned pink (this was the water indicator sticker which permanently changes color with 1 drop of liquid).

2. when putting the phone back together for the dock connector replacement- please realize you have to put the tiny screw and spacer from step 12 & 13 back (left speaker enclosure screw) before you remove the backing of the stickers on the dock connector cable. I made the mistake of adhering the dock connector cable first, and covering up the left speaker enclosure screw, making it very difficult to put it back in.

My Problem

I'm the only IT Analyst at my site and I have to be the hands to fix everything from software, account access, to hardware support. I also have to travel to other sites to help out and this tool kit goes with me every time. My kit mainly includes the pro kit, ratchet, magnetic mat, and, etc. My first repair job was taking 3 broken laptops and putting together one that works.

My Fix

All the screws were easily removed with the pro kit set and the magnet mat was sheer brilliance to have with this repair job. I would highly recommend any IT Tech or hobbyist that has the inclination to rip apart electronics. The pro kit by far is the best kit for laptop repair out there.

My Advice

The one thing I would love to see you guys make would be a custom tool bag for your tools. I have a small one from that huge anchor store at your local mall which works well, however having a custom IFIXIT bag made for their tools would ROCK!

My Problem

My Galaxy S3 would intermittently (once or twice a day) lose the cell signal.

My Fix

Being optimistic, I ordered your tools and tried to find the problem. I opened the phone and removed the first inner plate, and the shield on the SIM card fell out into my hand!

I wedged it back into its clips, put the screws back in, and the phone has worked ever since!

My Advice

Don't be afraid to open a modern device. Sometimes it is not working for a trivial reason!

My Problem

I quit trusting "Geniuses".

My Fix

I replaced the airport card, but that didn't solve the problem.

My Advice

Easy fix if it's the actual problem.

My Problem

Track Pad was unresponsive and would not click.

My Fix

Very simple repair. Remove lower case and battery and its just a matter of screwing the new one in.

My Advice

Be sure to check the adjustment Torx screw right next to the track pad for proper click and sensitivity. The original repair guide did not include this step but it may be necessary to adjust if some parts of the track pad are non responsive. I thought the new part was bad until I found on another video to adjust this screw.

My Problem

The DVD system of a Wii was out, I jusy order that part and fallow the step by step guide in app "I Fixit" tha dah!!! Everything working nicely again!

My Fix

Fast and easy! Safe procedur to follow steb by step with puctures!

My Advice

Do what the guide I Fixit toll you to!

My Problem

Battery Not Holding Charge

My Fix

Tools worked past my expectations. Took my time,FOLLOWED INSTRUCTIONS CLOSELY, and the repair went VERY well.

My Advice

IN ALL HONESTY, your shipping charge of 31.00 stinks. I've shipped packages, same size and weight for ALOT LESS. That REALLY TARNISHED an otherwise STELLAR experience, and if its UPS your blaming....use someone else. I would have even waited longer to get the package rather than paying 200 dollars for tools and getting whacked for 31.00 shipping. That ruins the chance for "NEXT TIME"
