It was pretty easy with the right tools and a guide. One screw is hidden and the guide showed where it is.

The old battery had swollen enough to push on the trackpad.

The repair went exactly as advertised!

My Advice

Because the old battery was swollen, it pushed against the bottom case panel with enough force to throw the tiny screws some distance as I loosened them! If your old battery is swollen, take care to apply some pressure to the bottom panel and contain the screw you're removing until you've completely removed the screw.

I noticed there were read/write errors and the hard drive had all ready been replaced.

The replacement SATA cable did the trick.

Careful removing the original cable from the second bracket, it's not difficult to do, just be patient with it.

The IMAC PRO 2009 model Battery was no longer charging though it was still working from the power cord .

I looked at all options including replacing the Mac

After watching the video tips.. I remembered what i had to do.

It took me less than 10 minutes to change it ..half of that was chat ting to my friend:)

It was just too to easy to believe.

My Advice

Get onto the website and youtube that advise you on how to fix the problem.

you're battery may not be totally gone like mine ..but try the options.

if you know there are no options left other than discarding the mac

Go to IFIXIT Site and order a new battery.

They'll advise you on what you need and how to replace the battery.

It costs $138 for a new battery and little bit of time

By the way ..for Aussie's and maybe other countries it cost more due to the exchange rate $250 But It was definitely worth it.

Apple Tech's would cost more and so would a New mac.

The only pieces of advise is :you will need 2 x screwdrivers ..one for the casing which is a really tiny screwdriver.

and the one I purchased for the battery screws.

The other advise is "DO IT" ..Replace it yourself!

It was easiest thing I have done in years.

My Problem

I needed to repair my trackpad, looking at some tutorial online to see if there is a way of fixing it, so I started unscrewing the bottom open up the laptop, then the trackpad is under the battery so needed to remove the battery 1st

Then looking at the battery I noticed it wasnt a regular shape and for a while already I got the OS X status that the battery can still work but probably need a replacement. And also taking out the screw next to where the battery is located notice the aluminium cover was pushed by it.

Then battery remove and before changing anything regarding the screw of the trackpad just opened the computer that was upside down to click on it and the %#*@ trackpad was clicking as how I remembered it.

So conclusion was that the battery that was swallowed was pushing on the trackpad, then looking at some of the comment under the tutorial that you guys had the same issue.

So solution was to replace the battery, and in 2 things in one trackpad working and I have a new battery life.

Already did it a couple times for cleaning the computer, nothing much to say after the problem explanation, just took less than 10min to open up the computer and replace battery and then battery working now and trackpad also :)

No advice in particular except that I know sometimes it can be long to read all comments under a tutorial but just take the time to do it, sometimes you'll see some people with same issue with a computer with 6yo+ than could same you time :)

My Problem

The old battery didn't have much life left in it, but that was actually the smaller problem. The battery had gotten to the point where it had swollen so much that it was pushing up on the bottom of the track pad made clicking impossible. I had to enable some of the multi-touch features just to be able to click and drag and drop!

My Fix

Very easy. Nothing was glued in this model, and the bottom screws are easy too remove. Too easy in fact, which is why I bought a screw set since 2/3s of my screws had fallen out and been lost. Good to have my bottom cover on securely and fresh loctite on the threads.

My Advice

The walk-through calls out the spudger, but you really don't need it to bend the sticker over the left battery screw back.

Also, a great time to clean your fans if you haven't done so in a while.
