What you need

This teardown is not a repair guide. To repair your External Storage, use our service manual.

    • Start at the plain end (the opposite side from the power jack) with the spudger. Carefully pry slightly up and away.

    • Once you have the end opened up, use the credit card to hold it open.

    • When you have the entire end separated, carefully pry the sides out and away along the adjoining two sides, working your way towards the end with the power jack. Save that end for last, it should lift away when you're done with the other sides.

    • Work around the drive, ends first then the sides to open it

    • This is really challenging and I did end up breaking some of the clips. Its pretty hard to tear apart.

    • Gently pull the sides slightly and the drive will lift out

    • Pull the rubber screw covers off, these are mounted with a little glue and came off easily

    • Remove all four screws with the philips screwdriver

    • Slide drive out of metal caddy (do not lift)

    • You will now have a SATA Hard Drive and the caddy separate

    • From the bottom of the caddy there are two black screws

    • With the Philips screwdriver you can remove these

    • Pull the circuit board gently and evenly to remove it
