Image 1/1: This looks important.
  • The guts of a HTC One mini, for your consideration.

  • This looks important.

  • There is nothing in this phone that can be repaired. Repairability score = 0/10.

  • Okay, since my joke teardown actually got approved by the friendly ifixit staff, I think I have to be serious for just a moment.

    • The HTC One Mini is a glued and latched together mess of parts and wires.

    • Replacing any component in the phone requires a near complete disassembly of the device.

    • My job is repairing phones and tablets, and HTC is consistenly the most frustrating brand to work with.

    • I'm not saying it's impossible to repair it, but it is extremely difficult, and even if you are highly skilled you are very likely to irreversibly damage one or more or all of the components.

    • I created this guide out of frustration, and to serve as a warning to others. If you have even a shred of doubt about your ability to repair this device, just forget about it.

    • Yes, that's a hammer in the left side of the first picture.

hi, have you been able to take the phone apart and power it on? I have a faulty power button so need to power it on using the innards of the phone (apparently you can do it by making a connection?) - how far down your teardown road do I need to go?

I joined just to say how pointless and unhelpful this is !

Well, unfortunately this is not so far off. I had my battery replaced under warranty by HTC customer service (phone was caught in a bootloop) and received a repair protocol together with the repaired phone. It lists all the spare parts they needed because they were damaged during disassembly (18 different parts). It is a full page long, in very small print and includes two logic boards, the case, gaskets, the power key, cables, vibrator, speaker and flash.... If I could attach something here I would scan the list.

Hey guys,

I Need help! Where does the little golden piece right next to the vibrator on the first photo belong? It came off when repairing my M4.

Thanks a lot for your help!
