What you need

This teardown is not a repair guide. To repair your First alert smoke and carbon monoxide alarm, use our service manual.

    • Now what you should do is pop a small screwdriver into the rivet hole to unlock the battery holder.

  5. First alert smoke and carbon monoxide alarm Teardown, Final Step.: step 5, image 1 of 1
    • Now with the the battery back area being popped out you can safely take out the ringer and the mother board of the smoke detector.

    • Electricity works in a smoke detector by detecting smoke via a air filtration tank and when it detects the smoke it send a electric signal to a air horn to beep every 3-5 seconds.
