My Problem
The logic board on the iMac (5yrs old) failed, so instead of repair, I opted for a new iMac, and wanted to keep the 'old' hard drive as a back-up for our back-up. I used the iFixIt guide for replacing a hard drive, and purchased a Universal Drive Adapter (I had had one but couldn't find where I had hidden it some time ago).
My Fix
The kit came with elaborate instructions for Windows but none for MacOS. Guess why? You don't need any!! It was fairly simple to figure out what needed to be plugged where, and Erasing and Partitioning the now-new external hard drive was easy-peasy.
My Advice
Would have been nice to also have a chassis available for the hard drive in addition to the SATA and power connections.
