My Problem

Well my iphone 5s battery had the tendency to die at 20-40% batterh life so figured it was time for a new one. I decided to do it myself and purchased the new part and the pro tech toolkit for any future project iphone related or computer related. Well I fell in love with the toolkit instantly. All the tools are great and with the minor exception for the plastic opening tools, all the tools are top notch.

My Fix

Well I got to business. Cleared my desk space and went to work. I followed the ifixit step by step guide and video to the last detail. I used that suction cup with the knowledge that it is difficult and that I only needed to get it open just a tad so I can use the opening tools to pry the rest without damaging the ribbon cables for the front display and front facing camera. Well the suction did work but what ended up happening was I pulled the whole display off instantly and tore the very same cables I did not want to damage. Low and behold I found out later that I could have simply used a thing or shaved down guitar pick to open the display from the rear. Anyway ifixit was nice and they gave me a great discount on buying the new camera and display even though the display they sent me was bad so they sent me another one. Very smooth process with the ifixit staff. All friendly and helpful. Great site and tools. Battery lasts long and is excellent.

My Advice

Be careful opening that display. Use a thin shaved guitar pick instead of the cup
