Coffee Book Air

netherby -

My Problem

Someone thought their Mac Air needed a little pick-me-up and liberally applied a cup of hot coffee to the keyboard. Unfortunately the keyboard stopped working entirely.

My Fix

How many different types of screw does apple want to use in this thing? The case is pentalobed, the internals use two different sizes of torx and they threw in some philips heads just to cover all the bases. That said, it is actually a lot easier to take apart than I'm used to with other brands of laptops, even if some parts are glued in.

The replacement uppercase (since the keyboard is part of it) had all the glue pads attached, so no problems with reassembly there! Very nice, all fixed!

My Advice

Besides not spilling drinks on laptops and not designing keyboards that are part of the case making them way more expensive to replace than they should be..

There is an adjustment screw under the trackpad, you should make sure the pad click is working nicely before sealing up the case.
