Replaced 500g Drive in 24" 2.4 iMac that failed SMART status with 1TB

My Problem

Failed SMART status, Apple no longer supports this model.

My Fix

It went well, except the ambient temperature sensor for the 24 iMac run around the entire monitor housing from top to bottom. The previous mac installer had nearly ruined the cable, when I installed this drive, one of the top screws for the metal bezel went through the sensor cable and shorted the machine and threw the heat sensors off, fans went on machine shut down. I soldered the broken wire (one of four) and it's back up. Also ordered a replacement for the future if there's a problem from a supplier here in New York.

My Advice

I think you guys should have a sterner warning for people about this LCD temp sensor. I had it in the proper place, the problem was the screw punctured the cable housing when screwed in, it's happened to many others via Apple support forums.
