MacBook Pro 15" Core 2 Duo Model A1211 Right Fan Replacement

15 - 30 minutes

Moderate

My Problem

I know: When the fans start making noise, it's time to save the CPU from a heat stroke. So new fans and all accompanying stuff was ordered to cure my Macbook Pro 15.

My Fix

The right fan was easy because my huge vacuum cleaner could suck the dust bale out from deep in the heat sink. To re-seal the air duct, I had single-side and double-side sticky tape available. The things went straightforward then until it was the left Thermal Sensor's turn. It demanded to dismount the Logic Board, hence the CD drive first. However, the blue Loctite didn't let the bottom right screw go. The screw is now scrap and has to be drilled out next time.

My Advice

The picture shows the ordered and required tools at the left side and what was in addition necessary more to the right. Of the inevitable large vacuum cleaner, I show just the hose's nozzle tip. The transparent bag preserves both the laptop and the desktop, the paper envelope separates the keypad from the computer body while testing the fans.
