My Problem

My Macbook was loosing it's internet connection when I was streaming videos. The thing that I could trace it to was when the fan was running full and the heatsinks were in the 190 degree range. I got some advice on ifixit that i could reapply thermal paste to the heatsinks and that could help cool the them. I had already opened up my macbook and replaced the airport card and the process was similar so I decided to give it a try.

My Fix

I read the repair manual, ordered the tools, cleaner and paste and set to it. All went smoothly except for removing the heat sensor wires from the mother board. I had no idea how they attached or removed. It was a little scary to be working on something so delicate without a clue.

Also a few plastic parts feel out and I didn't know where they came from. I finally located where they sat in place along the edge to help clip the keyboard to the base. Another plastic clip and screw also appeared, I don't know where from. I never did find where to put them.

Also, I really got some big chunks of dust out from the fan and cooling element area. They were tight balls and were blocking things up.

Anyway it went back together and it works fine but the problem of internet dropping persists.

My Advice

The actual repair is doable. I still don't know exactly how to reattach the heatsink temperature sensor wires, or if I did it right. The key board edges are easy to break as you remove it from the base so be very careful. Otherwise it's not too difficult.
