MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Right Speaker Replacement

2 hours

Moderate

My Problem

Rights speaker developed distortion...sounded like a perforated speaker cone...

My Fix

Straightforward but fairly lengthy mainly due to logic board removal

My Advice

Have right tools (pentalobe, torx screwdrivers, spudger assortment)

Use air duster throughout to clean out dust from fans and between board

layers as you go...also isopropyl alcohol on Q tip here and there.

The advice about avoiding trapped connectors when replacing logic board

was well heeded but even so careful checks needed.

Useful tools - pentalobe screwdriver, torx screwdrivers, iFixit magnetic parts mat, binocular magnifier

clip-on for spectacles (purchased years ago from Tokyo Hans store in Akihabara district, Tokyo)

Hi Richard, Looks like there is a flaw with these speakers. I’ve got same mid 2012 model. Some time ago the right speaker went crazy like yours did, so I turned it off and used only left speaker. And last week same happened to left speaker, so I decided finally to order R and L speakers. I am not sure yet if I do the repair myself, reading the tutorial it seems easy to ruin some connections.
