My Problem
My iPod Classic (thin) battery kept dying. I wasn't ready to give up on a piece of equipment that could hold 160G of music.
My Fix
Woah. That was hard. I've replaced iPhone batteries, and those have been tricky. But this was really hard. But I did it and didn't damage the iPod, except for a small scratch on one side. Still glad I did it myself.
My Advice
I recommend watching several installation videos, including the guy that uses exacto knives: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aQn-Hkv...
I ended up using a razor blade knife, two flat pick-style plastic spudgers, and like credit cards cut up into 8 pick-shaped pieces. And a small screw driver to help pry. That worked great. I do not recommend the putty knife solution in the iFixit guide.
