Overheating Computer

Alex Bahm -

My Problem

Computer was constantly running fans with little to no actual load. Upon closer investigation the computer was getting as high as 90 degrees Celsius when doing moderately demanding tasks.

My Fix

Opened the case and saw a bunch of dust everywhere. After the dust was removed the real problem revealed itself. One of the pins that held the heat sink down was making a poor connection with the CPU and causing it to easily overheat. After reinstalling the heat sink the temperature went down to a normal level.

My Advice

If your computer temperatures are obscenely high take a look at the installation of the heat sink!
