My Problem
Our family has four iPhone 5s that we've had over three years that work fine, and use the most recent operating system, through the batteries no longer hold a charge for long. Replacing the batteries has given them a whole new life.
My Fix
Getting out the old batteries was the only difficulty. Ended up heating up the back of the phone with a hair dryer and prying out the battery with one of the plastic tools. Deformed the battery but didn't puncture it!
My Advice
I'm guessing that the adhesive strips on older phones will always break off when you try to remove them. We concluded that being pretty fearless on heating up the back of the phone to soften the old strips and in prying up against the side of the phone case is the way to go: there is the risk of ruining the phone, but they old ones anyway. As I told my wife and daughters,"If I blow it, you get a new phone!"
