iFixit saved my Macbook from going in the trash

My Problem

I was using the notebook in the sofa and left it on the sofa arm. When I threw myself in the sofa while seating, the notebook jumped and hit the floor while the screen was open, creating a strip of dead pixels of 5 centimeters on the left side.

Took to repair it, but as my computer had just came out of warranty, the repair costs were quoted as almost half of the price of a new one. Thankfully iFixit got the part in stock and I decided going on this adventure of repairing my own computer

My Fix

It was a bit tough but the great steps at iFixit page opened in my iPad on the side were easy to follow and made me confident of what I was doing.

Had some issues regarding the cabling management but in the end it was and I repaired successfully.

Just wish that iFixit had included a some glue or adhesive to re-secure the cables and gaskets in place again.

Also had some issues as the hinges in the screen came closed and I took some time to figure out a way to open them without damaging the screen.

My Advice

Pay attention to the way cables were managed inside the computer and take your time to put them in the right place. Take care with the connectors and follow the steps provided to the letter with the right tools. It is worth every dollar spent purchasing iFixit tools.

Also take your time to align the screen with the rest of the body of the computer, I had to try that some times to get it right. Have patience on this part.
