Difficult

My Problem

Purchased this used Macbook Pro for my daughter in law. While in GREAT condition, the original battery was exercised moderately. I wanted to start her off with the Macbook in a state of a refurbished near new condition for school. So I decided to replace the battery since it had about 500 cycles on it and down to 87% of original capacity (this dropped 3% right out of the gate so I made this move to replace). And now was the time before her starting school and things get busy and demanding for her.

My Fix

Excellent. As usual ifixit is my go to for post purchase parts and pre-purchased serviceability research. During the pre-purchase phase, I use the site to research the serviceability of potential machines. This lead me for example on this purchase to go with pre-2016 models as I like the idea of at least being able to remove/repair batteries and SSD's. I don't like the idea of the new machines being in essence disposable with very little serviceability.

My Advice

The repair instructions are A++. Good job! Its not a simple job, but it's doable even on the day before thanksgiving. Just be patient and follow step by step. Its a major gut of the computer so if you decide to do it.. just do it right and take your time and confirm the steps before closing her up. Being a professional and very busy, the convenience of having a one stop shop for everything for the repair is EXCELLENT.
