My Problem

3 months ago, my son dropped the phone and had some minor cracking on one corner but just recently had it in his back pocket with a portable battery then sat down - causing significant cracks through the main area of the screen

My Fix

Technically it was far easier than I expected - I would almost change the level of difficulty to Easy but I've taken apart these phone before so I've got that portion of the steps down pat. The only glitchy part was migrating the Home Key to the new display. I had a bit of difficulty getting the Home Key's connector to sit between the posts so I could connect it to the new display. After a few minutes I "thought" I was able to get it properly seated. I got the phone reassembled and tested the unit - when I tried the Home Key and it worked BUT TouchId did not... I took it apart again and re-seated the Home Key connector and that did the trick.

My Advice

1. Make sure you have a well lit room AND some sort of eyeball assist (Jeweler's Head Loupe)

2. The new display is a bit thicker than the original but not by much.

3. Always take extreme care on the position and bending of the multiple ribbons - look at the previous display to see where to bend them AND NOT OVERBEND or PINCH.
