My Problem
The phone was stuck in DFU mode and refused to be restored by iTunes (yielded several different errors). Some research online indicated that using 3rd party chargers or car chargers may cause this situation, which my wife had done. So, I decided to get the kit to attempt to power cycle the iPhone and just replace the battery while I was in there.
My Fix
Compared to the iPad Air2 screen repair I did a year ago, this was easy. The trick was to read all the instructions and go slow.
My Advice
It helps to take a look at the adhesive strips that come with the new battery. This give you an idea of what you're trick to pull. They are like command hook tape - when you remove it you need to pull as parallel to the adhered surface as you can. Unfortunately it didn't work for me, so I had to use the iopener that I had from the iPad repair in order to heat up and soften the old adhesive.
