How to replace the battery in your iPhone 5s

40 minutes

Moderate

My Problem

Old phone, battery was toast. Thought I'd try my first iPhone repair on what was essentially a non-functioning museum piece at this point, and thought it'd be nice to have a backup iPod.

My Fix

Went really well, minor delay when I dropped the 1.7 mm Phillips #000 screw that doesn't stick to the scredriver under the front panel assembly cable bracket.

Tested new battery, worked great. Had a little bit of trouble getting the adhesive strips on cleanly. But I put them on the old battery, which I realized after I put the old battery back into the phone.

My Advice

When putting the phone back together, replace the broken parts with the new, functioning parts. If you follow that advice, your phone is much more likely to work following the repair.

Please refrain from calling the iPhone 5s and others museum pieces they are usable phones only in need of ifixit care.

Good idea using the box and a rubber band to hold the screen up! I'll have to use this next time.
