Battery was only lasting a few hours

Buy a new battery from iFixit. Be sure to buy a P2 pentalobe if you don’t have one.
My Advice
The trick is to take your time and do each step very carefully. I did not remove the LCD screen, I attached it to the box the iPhone came in with a rubber band and very, very carefully performed each step. The trick is the adhesive. Mine came off fairly easily. If it hadn’t, I would have had to remove the LCD to get better access to the battery. No one mentions that the adhesive is very much like command strips. I found pulling the adhesive strip straight out, parallel to the battery, as you would a command strip, worked best for me.
