My Problem

The battery lasted too little, and I won't be able to switch phones until Dec 2017 so I decided to get a new battery.

My Fix

It went well, at some point I thought I had ruined the home button cable, but it turned out it was only the touch ID cable bracket that came out, and the cable was intact. This happened because the front panel was hard to separate away from the rear case. So it jumped open. I think I was lucky.

My Advice

If using the suction cup to open the phone be very careful! Applying too much force will make the phone jump open and that could rip the home button cable. I was lucky that didn't happen.

The other thing I would suggest is for iFixit to make a reassembling instructions guide and have close up pictures of the metal bracket that covers the home button cable.
